At the Tandoori
Ghor our passion
for quality and variety of food
means that there is something for
everyone. Whether they be casual
grazers or serious three-course
diners a sublime experience of
different flavours awaits.
The Tandoori Ghor restaurant first
opened its doors on 10th October
1995, it was a brand new business
venture by the owners, Abu Ahmed
and Kamrul Ismail, they started
with a staff of four which has now
expanded to ten due to the success
of the restaurant.
It's
obvious to see why
the Tandoori Ghor has remained so
popular when you enter the
restaurant. While the surroundings
are certainly stylish, there is a
very relaxed atmosphere, partly
thanks to Ahmeds' and Ismails'
skill at putting people at
ease.
Many of the diners are clearly
regulars and proves that much of
its custom comes from repeat
visitors. The restaurant reports
that, over the years, there has
been increasing demand for more
exotic and exciting dishes, and the
Ghor has responded to this with a
continually developing menu.
Ahmed
came to England from Bangladesh
with his family in 1980, he was
educated in Harrow while working
part-time in his families Indian
restaurant, he completed a business
studies course at college before
starting work at the Shiplu
restaurant in Norman Road, when
that restaurant was sold in 1993
Ahmed moved to the Shiplu in Queens
Road where he met the present chef
Mohamed Fazlu Miah.
Ismail
left Bangladesh for Belgium where he
studied a language course, he came
to England briefly to work in an
Indian restaurant in Essex before
returning to Belgium to work in a
large Steak House for four years.
In 1994 he came back to England to
work in an Indian restaurant at
Robertsbridge until the opening of
the Tandoori Ghor in 1995.
Mohamed Fazlu
Miah is the
Tandoori Ghor's celebrated Indian
Master Chef. Just 36 he has been a
Chef since 1989, for the last 15
years he has been working in
Hastings and St Leonards,
previously he worked in restaurants
in Brighton and Scotland. A very
friendly person he is often seen in
the restaurant chatting to
customers to ensure they are happy
with the food, he will prepare any
dish on request.
The
restaurant was a 45
seater until 2002 and was extended
into the property next door to
become the 95 seater that it is
now. the restaurant was renovated
to it's current standard in 2003.
The owners are extremely happy with
the current flourishing business
and excellent customer database, at
present no further extensions are
planned, the Tandoori Ghor legend
is ongoing.
